Houston Zoo

Nick and I purchased Zoo memberships a few weeks ago.  This was a great purchase because we can go to the zoo whenever we would like for as long as we want. We finally had the opportunity to use our passes last weekend.  I told Allison the day before that we were going to the zoo and for a full 24 hours we got to hear the phrase, "I want to go to the zoo!"  Well, here she is before we left for the zoo...

Our first stop at the zoo was to see the sea lions.  I love them!  They are certainly one of my favorite animals.

Then we went to see the giraffes. We all love giraffes; who doesn't love giraffes?!  They Houston Zoo even has a new giraffe baby.  Precious!

Allison had the amazing opportunity to feed a giraffe!   The giraffe's name is Neema.  She did not want the lettuce from the little girl who tried to feed her before, but she ate all of Allison's lettuce!

 I absolutely love this picture.  It makes one realize that children and animals can bring a sense of joy like no other.  I can't think of two things that can make me smile more.  The pure joy Allison received from feeding this huge creature that was so gentle and so kind is truly priceless.

We also saw the turtles.  Allison said they were eating "guacamole."

We also saw the chimpanzees.  One of them came right up to the glass to see all of the children watching him!

We saw the elephants too.  The Houston Zoo currently has two baby elephants.  One baby is 10 months old and the other one is only 5 1/2 months old.  They are still HUGE babies!

Allison spotted the carousel from a mile away.  All morning she begged to ride it.  Of course, we had to try it out.  This was her first carousel ride.  She was really excited at the beginning.

She was not as happy once it started moving...

We were really proud of her.  Even though she was truly nervous, she did not cry.  That's a big girl!
We ventured to the petting zoo so Allison could pet the goats.  She loved that.

We had a great time at the zoo. We were truly impressed with the Houston Zoo. It was clean, the staff was amazing and all the baby animals made the visit so fun!  We will use our membership a lot to check on all of our growing friends!

Go Kappa!

OK, most of y'all know that I am a proud University of Oklahoma Kappa Kappa Gamma.  One of my Kappa sisters posted this on Facebook today and it is too cute not to share.  Here are some Baylor Kappas explaining how "Klassy" it is to be a Kappa!

I love this!  "Blue is our color and blue is our other color!"  It is about time for all of the high school seniors going through rush in the Fall to get their resumes and recs in order.  Good luck and GO KAPPA!

Raise Your Glass!

I think most of you know that our two year old daughter knows the lyrics to just about every pop song on the Top 20.  She loves to dance and sing and just like her mother and daddy, she loves "Glee!"  Here she is dancing and singing to the Warblers version of Pink's "Raise Your Glass."

Please never mind her poor daddy trying to catch a nap in the background and the brief intermission when she decides to remove her socks.

Signs of Spring

We love the Houston weather...right now.  We know this will change.  But for now, Spring is lovely.  It is so lovely in fact that we did a bit of Spring planting the other day.

Never mind the sad looking bushes, the Houston "FREEZE" took them out in February, we either need to trim way back or plant something new.

I finally accomplished a long time dream of mine by planting Hydrangeas. I have ALWAYS wanted them!  They are gorgeous and pink!  We also planted Marigolds, Begonias, Snap Dragons, Polka Dot Plant, and a few other colorful items.  I will update  you as Spring and Summer rolls on. Hopefully things will flourish!

Princess Allison And The Bunny

Allison's school had a photographer and LIVE bunnies come to the school for Spring pictures.  I think they turned out really well.  They certainly do not look like any school pictures I ever had made.  She wore her Snow White smocked dress so that she could be a real princess and frolic in the woods with her bunny forest friends.  That is what princesses do, right?  Well, I know the Disney Princesses do anyway. I thought I would share them with you.  Here are the ones in color....

I wonder what she is thinking about here.  This one is precious. Although, as a mother, I wish she did not put her finger in her mouth after she touched the bunny.

I like this one a lot too.  That poor bunny finally attempted his escape. I wonder how little Peter Cottontail was feeling by the end of the day and TONS of preschoolers!

These were taken on a Thursday.  The following Tuesday before we left for school, I asked Allison what she was going to do at school that day.  She told me, "Ummm, bunnies."  Unfortunately, they did not come back a second time, but what great snap shots and memories.
